SCHOOL & ADMINISTRATION HOURS
Alpha Institute of the Treasure Coast, Inc., is open from 9:00am – 10:00pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00am – 5:30pm on Friday for school hours. The administrative office hours are from 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday.
HISTORY AND OWNERSHIP
Michael Lanning established Alpha School of Massage of the Treasure Coast, Inc. in 1995 in answer to the need for trained massage therapists in Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties. The school was purchased in January 1999, by Alpha Institute of South Florida, Inc., and renamed Alpha Institute of South Florida, Inc. DBA, Alpha School of Massage of the Treasure Coast. The principal stockholders were Keith R. Fingerhut, Douglas C. Espie, and Janice R. Espie. The school transferred ownership from Alpha Institute of South Florida, Inc. to Alpha Institute of the Treasure Coast, Inc. in March 2001, with principal stockholders Douglas C. Espie and Janice R. Espie remaining. The Facial Specialist I and Facial Specialist II courses were approved in 2001. The Make-Up Artistry and Body Wrap Courses were approved in 2002. Make-Up Artistry and Body Wrap courses are included in the Facial Specialist curriculum at this time.
MISSION/PURPOSE
The mission of Alpha Institute of the Treasure Coast, Inc., as a diploma granting career school, is to provide the highest quality career education and skills development to individuals desiring to pursue a career in the holistic health care and cosmetology/beauty fields of Massage Therapy, and Facialist Specialist.
PHILOSOPHY
Alpha Institute of the Treasure Coast, Inc., believes that Massage Therapy, Facial Specialist, Body Wrap and Make-Up Artistry are valuable tools in the holistic approach to health care. We believe that practitioners of these therapies must have an understanding of the human body and its functions in relationship to their practice. The practitioner must also be able to apply this knowledge in their practice. Alpha Institute of the Treasure Coast, Inc. provides an educational atmosphere that recognizes the individual needs of each student. The school provides a relaxed learning atmosphere, combined with providing safety and support, where each student is valued and appreciated.
OBJECTIVES
- To educate students with the highest state and national standards in the profession of massage, skin care and beauty therapy.
- To provide structured and sequenced skill training with competency evaluations at each level.
- To introduce students to basic knowledge of business skills, concepts and practices that will provide the students with the necessary understanding of the laws and rules governing Massage Therapy, and Facial Specialty.
- To provide students with the tools necessary to take the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) Exam for Massage Therapy, the Florida State Registrations Exams for Facial Specialist and Body Wrap, and the Alpha Institute Certification Exam for Make-Up Artistry. Passing these exams is required for Florida State Board of Massage Therapy licensure as a Massage Therapist, and Florida State Board of Cosmetology Specialty Registration as a Facial Specialist and Body Wrap Specialist.
